Sunless skies

 Sunless, endless day
A blister of fire
Emanating from my gaze
With no desire
The world's ending around me, yet I stagnate
There's no change
The world's shifting, ending
Everyone's ascending
A higher self that they become
Or descending back
Into a primitive form
All around me are husks
Dire representations of the former self
All walking a path in this endless dusk
Seeking absolution or wealth
Everyone carries their sins
Whether they know it or not
Yet I remain myself
Stagnating till the end
Under the sunless skies
The world's on fire in my eyes
Everyone carries their sins
Whether they know it or not
I walk among the masses
Staring at their inner clashing
As they're tearing at the seams
Without even knowing so
They must atone for what they've done
Or they'll go all the way
For what's done is done
Some just care not
We see each other occasionally in the crowd
They see me like I see them
As if we're a pair of keys in a lost & found box
With an owner who's long been gone
We see all come and go
Yet we stay
We see them all grow old
Yet we remain forever young
Or at least that's what I tell myself
Everyone carries their sins
Whether they know it or not
The starlight occasionally pierces
The distant suns sometimes break through
The moon is non-existent
For the sun is through
I know not how humanity survived
How this cloud of smog that covers our eyes
Persists to this day
How we can foster plant growth
Without the sun rays
Maybe I'm just blind
And I see the sun not
Maybe I'm just like everyone else
In my quest, ever lost
One day I'll be done
And I'll atone like them all
One day I'll no longer be young
One day I'll be old like them all
Let that day never come
Not till I draw my final breath
I pray and pray and pray
But then again
I know that without age
I will stagnate
And I'll keep watching the world
Everyone carries their sins
Whether they know it or not
Everyone human's a sinner
All of us are capable of filth
On an individual level, we're barely much
But as a collective, we bring death
Grown beyond what we can contain
The lives of individuals worth less than a day's pay
Depends on where you were born, I guess
Rot climbs over me
Covers my eyes sometimes
But the fired up gaze still pierces through
To create its own light
Maybe our ancient biological interpretation was right
Maybe the light does come out of us
Maybe physics did lie
Maybe there's nothing we can trust
After all, the sun's gone
The sunless skies rule
Yet we've survived in a world so cruel
I wonder at what point a man's soul shatters
Breaks into a million pieces
I wonder if anything I do will ever matter
As one of the puzzle's eight billion pieces
I'll once again gaze upon the stars
And pray I'd see some guidance there
I'll once again stare at who I once was
And pray I can atone for his sins
Everyone carries their sins
Whether they know it or not
Everyone's lost within
So much that they can see naught
The world's darkened without our gazes
Just chasing that in which we believe
I pray for the safety of all humans
And pray more for those who no longer can breathe
