Feet don't fail

As I walk down the alleyway
Music blasting in my ears
I cross the street
Bopping my head all the while
Not a care in the world
Wondering where I am
My feet carried me thus far alright
I keep my head held high
My gaze focused on the road on which I walk
I wonder how far I can go
With the stuff that always follows in my wake
There, I look and see a friend
Turn off my music and approach
Shake the man's hand
Smile and wonder where we'll go today
I just nod a few, don't have lots to say
The timing is always strange
The sky is full of clouds
Where did the sun go
Damn, it's already past sunset
I've been walking on for a handful of hours
Did not even come to realize
I look back on the road that I've been on
A wonderous sense fills the air, I'm not upset anymore
Nor do I hide or cower from the things I know
I used to be an idiot, and thought I was wise
Just laughing now at the most childish of jokes
We reach our goal
Shake hands with the rest of the group
The music is now off
The car ride was a little cinematic
My feet hurt far more than expected
Should I rest, then? Nah, I tell myself
For there is no rest as of yet
I'm not home, haven't found that place
I'm too far gone to claim that I've walked with grace
Not a canopy in sight, the sun already rising up again
I don't wish to sit in the rays
So I find a spot to take cover and look
All my friends have gone home already again
Guess I've rested enough without realising then
Time to get up and keep walking
Feet don't fail me now
Carry me to the other side
We'll cross the street one more time
And one more after, too
Till I grow wings or learn to fly
Or float
Or ride
Or drive
But till then, you and I
Are all we've both got
So don't you go collapsing down
I'll rest you when need be
Bathe you to set you free
From all the dirt that's built up from the years
The bruises and the blood
I must rid us of the muck
Feels like this path we're on is everlasting, and we're stuck
But nevertheless I'll walk, and you can't say no
You must help me get where I go
For without you I'll fall and collapse
And I don't have the arms to crawl
So, please do not betray me like you once did
I promise when we get where we want to be, we'll sit
Spend the days throwing the shit
About the past with no regrets
But for now, you must push on
Break the mold
Surpass our limits, that's my bet
For we were once wicked, and as such we must know no rest
C'mon, then. It's time for us to meet our friends again
It's been a week since our last meet
I know it doesn't feel like so
But that's because we've been in motion for far too long
And if you wanna sit today, that's okay
We'll find a calm, dry bench to raise you upon
A few hours can pass, we'll stay
Before you and I get up to go on and on
