Avalanche

In a universe where the world will collapse
You stand tall, alone and proud
Once you were that hunchback that I saw
That man's no longer anywhere to be found
When the flames that hunger, feast
Upon this world's shards and smithereens
Your eyes are fixated upon them, not
Your gaze stares at the mountain above
Wondering
Could you be the one to truly save this world?
You walk a long distance
It takes a million steps
A journey need not be the sum of it's parts
Rather it's every time you draw breath
You climb closer and closer to the mountaintop
With a dream, a gleam within your eyes
As you catch the fire glow
The people's screams do reach your ears
But none of them are strong enough
To bring about the end of their fears
You've been quiet all your life
It is now time for you to scream
And bring that fire to heel
Your actions will cause the deaths of many
But they'd be dead anyways
Scream upon this mountaintop
Bring down the avalanche to kill the flames
Those who dream of stoking them
Only ever want to see world burn
But your city will not be the pyre
From which the fires of hatred will spread
Your home will be buried
But that's neither here nor there
A vagabond, as you've always been
You don't truly have a home
The house, that which you've built with your hands
You never considered it to be so
It is your conviction within the heart
That drives you on
There's no need to protect that which is
Of a material nature
For it matters not at all
All you need is to protect that which in you believe
Protect your innocence and growth
Now you come before me with a head held higher than the skies
It is not an ego that brought you here, no
You've already told me how many died
I know, as well as you, that you feel guilty over it all
Despite knowing full well it had to be done
The fact that you walked among the destruction of your town
Just to count the souls of them who're gone
We both know, yet still
Them's who're gone are the lucky ones
The avalanche didn't wipe your town
It saved the lives of millions more
The fire which was burning there
Could've destroyed us all
The world in which we live
You're the only one who could see
The true merit of the fires burning
Which people thought could set them free
Silencing the darkest howls of the evil of the night
Was a task you've given yourself
A darkness, so engulfing, only you could shine
A brightness from which you evolved
You come before me awaiting judgement
But who am I to judge your actions?
You've come to vindicate your guilt
But there's no reason for your anger
Do not dress in those rags for me
We both know you're not poor
Don't proclaim your love for the world
When we both know that you're not sure
It is your turn, my dearest one
Your turn to sit upon my chair
There's no judgement to be passed
On those who see the world barren & bare
You never felt the warmth of the village
Yet you never did burn it down
You saved the world from an ashy end
The clearness of the snow mixed with the blood
Your actions caused some to suffocate and drown
You're no Noah, and this isn't your flood
But you've done what you had to do nonetheless
None will hail you as a hero, hence why you take my seat
It is your job to bear a thankless job
It is your duty to root out deceit
Lie not to yourself or me
Shed that lamb's skin that you wear
And don't you dress in furs, either
A wolf's mantle isn't that which you bare
You're no animal, so stop pretending
You're more human than the rest of us all
A mirror was never meant to be
So don't stare inside yourself for too long
