Close your eyes

I want you to picture this
Close your eyes and dream with me
View the world like I once did
So beautiful, chock-full of imagery
The flowers in the glades
The scent of grass that was freshly cut by the blades
The vivid colourfulness of the general scene ahead
When, I then must ask, did we stop
Gazing upon that which matters least
Yet matters more than most things in life
When, I now must ask, did you last stop
To gaze upon that which matters most
Yet matters far less than your daily strife
Close your eyes and dream with me
Of a future in which we still believe
In happy endings and tastes of sweet
Nectar as we sprint away from the hive that's filled with bees
Some might say that we're being childish
I'll say we're living together a child-like fantasy
The inner child that never grew old
Must come out sometimes to play
Regenerate him like a starfish
Make space within you for him to stay
Not just as a guest
But more so as a proper member
Of the place within you that you turn to when you rest
The place in which a council rules over all of your regrets
Decisions and inflections which run like gears within your head
Always on a 12-hour-shift
That even by nightfall still refuses to end
It is truly a catastrophe
That we grew old without learning the skills we need
To be able to satisfy the needs
Of the hurt child within
Nobody will learn to get you better than you do
Just, every once in a while, please
Listen to yourself
Listen to the voice inside you as it speaks
Or as it sings
Or writes
Or plays an instrument or song
Understand that that which you contain within you
Is among the greatest strengths of all
Close your eyes and dream with me
Take my hand and we'll fly away
Let's go on a child-like journey
An adventure in which we'll never stay
But we can return to again&again
Consistently carving out our own space
Within this fantastical place called the world
I implore you to conquer your fears
Accept you for who you are
In this bleakness, be your own light
God knows that none else will
Accept what comes from your plight
Learn to transform it into something swell
Kill the part of you that's filled with discomfort
That tells you everything you do sucks
Inform it that you don't care
This is a life that you can only live once
Spend your time with a smile, always
Even during the worst of days
Crush the walls you've built within
Learn to be your own best friend
Get comfortable with your own self
Try&try&try
Till one day
You close your eyes
And you see a smile
On the face of a younger version of yourself
