He lies awake

Hello, may I borrow a minute of your time
Oh, no, I hope you do not really mind
I am not really asking, this is not a request
This is more like a polite order
You see, I have this old friend
He lies awake through the night
Sleepless, with no refrain
Staring deeply within his past
Of the future he remains unafraid
His friends mostly forgot him
With the exception of a few
He was killed and numerously begotten
Reborn anew
Don't walk too close to his little home
Don't listen too well to the music he's got on
Don't knock on his door or say hello
Don't you ever dare make it known
That you're even within the place
His sleeplessness begets a state
Where everything is a shade of grey
Nothing is true to itself
Nothing lives on beyond its wealth
Whatever a thing's worth is of no consequence
Be his guest, he'll spare no expense
In torturing you with your past
In reminding you of who you were
In telling you of days past
Of showing your face in the mirror
Pointing to the aging lines
His villainy never does subside
He lies awake through day and night
Scheming
Conceiving
Preparing his plan
Weaving, and revealing
As little as he can
The world has shunned him, left him alone
His anger and rage burn brighter yet
A stagnant heart made of steel and stone
His scarred mind doth know no rest
Perhaps he'll sleep at last
When he finds peace bursting from within
A broken heart of steel and glass
Will keep beating through until the end
But where would that be
Truly
If he lies awake through it
Where would he be
Tell me
If he never wades through it
I wonder what the tides would bring
For this ill omen within our stead
I wonder when the tithe would begin
When he'd let go of his regrets
He lies awake
His eyes speak
They tell stories
Of lovers and freaks
Of friends and family
Of people he once had known
Of darker streaks
From a past that is unknown
He breathes as slowly as he blinks
His mind in a constant dormant state
But worry not for yourself
And be not afraid
For if you ever cross paths with him
You'd never know that he's the one
He's kind and gentle on the surface
But if you ever make it to his home
Run
