Conversing

 Hey
It's been a year since we wrote this way
On-and-off
The drive, driven away
Filled with passion, wrong
Reminders of all of our mistakes
And yet we keep moving on
From place to place
From skill to skill
From Earth to space
From moving to still
And yet we haven't spoken face-to-face
In a very very long time
Our hundredth poem was written
A year ago, around this time
A confused little kid, we were
Explosive at times
Caught and bruised in the midst, then and there
Eroding from the inside
And yet we float away
With the waves and the air
The winds carry us afloat
From east to west
From left to right
Read my lips, my dear
Upon them you'll see a smile
A smile for all the achievements we didn't accomplish
During all the while
We've been wallowing in pain
All the memories were wiped
And we were lost, afraid
Of the darkened monster left inside
Telling lies to shelter ourselves
Losing all that made us bright
The lights blown out
The candle burning low
The noggin full of doubt
The comprehension getting slow
And yet we keep trodding forwards
We keep moving on
But it's been far too long
Since you and I sat down and talked
Conversing till the sun shines
Writing away our pain
Running till we hide
A dark past plagues us
Darker memories, too
The mark remains thus
Harkening to our remedies, speaking truth
I miss you sometimes, my oldest friend
The first one who was birthed
I don't know where you've gone
I've been holding the line for all of us
Maintaining the front
Hoping that one day you'll return with me
On one night where I'll come seek
I miss our conversations
I miss the long, drawn out nights
I don't miss our depression, though
But I do hope you're alright
