The price we pay

 I'll ask you a question
Tell me the truth
What have we done with our youth
What have we achieved
Sacrifices we made
Places we faced
Never have we caved
Under the pressure
But did we ever achieve
Tell me the truth
My dear friend
Tell me what it is to you
Because to me
That's the price we pay for salvation
The price we pay for finding out who we are
That's the price we pay to avoid stagnation
To become what we truly are
We walk away from what we love
Leave our heart behind
Stab ourselves in the gut
Learn to become
What we swore not
Because you and I have come to learn
That we can be happy after all
Let go of our past
Stop feeling guilt
Learn to walk past
Everything else
Attack anything that harms us
Hit it back like it did us
Become part of a pack
Stop being lone wolves
Attach ourselves to our passions
Hold on tight skin teeth and nails
Try our best to stop lashing
With our anger at our mates
Our colleagues that feel
The problems we faced
They don't know
The price we paid
The one we still pay to this very day
We made promises years ago
To one another
That we've already broke
You love me and I love you too
You are me
And I am you
We walk a path that's unknown
Unheard of to the whole world
We know what we want
We know who we are
We know how to get there
Without going far
You learned to pay the price
And I paid the same with you
We used to torment one another
For years on end
But that's nothing new
We lost our father
And we lost our mother
We lost our passion
Yet we found another
You are a knight riding into darkness
I am a poet writing in the darkness
You have the heart of a warrior
I have the soul of a poet
We will breach that barrier
You and I both know it
So go on, fight your battles
About which I'll write a sonnet
And don't you worry we will never be rattled
Cause you and I own it
