Dear Yusuf

Dear Yusuf,
I am writing to you from the future
Things out here are dumb and stupid
And honestly I wish someone told ya
That life takes a toll on the mind
And things spiral outta control
And you shall grow up to find
That you can't direct it at all
In the time of your growing up
You'll come to know me
I'm a strange man, and stranger yet
Is what you come to call me
I'm the stargazer, hi
I come to you from a different life
To tell you about what it's like
Maybe this'll ease your suffering
Over time
You've lost a whole lotta things
You grew up till the age of six
Unaware of what was going on
Your dad died a long time ago
Bummer, that that went wrong
You never knew the man, really
But you loved him nonetheless
It's strange, really
That feelings like these could exist
Either way you moved a lot
Your family's been on the move for a while
And now you're going to a new school
Hoping to yourself you'd go there in style
Well let me tell ya, my dear child
There you'll be a star
You'll get bullied for it, but you'll go far
You'll cry and laugh and make a few friends
One of them will remain for life
He's your best friend, and together, you'll survive
You'll lose touch eventually, but you'll still be
Two people who loved one another
And oh don't you be afraid, you'll still see
Him occasionally, but you won't be around each other
Not for long anymore, life will take you places
That you never wanted to go, but hey
That's how it really goes, okay?
Okay. Now let me tell you something
The sad news is you'll move again
To a different area, different place
Different school, with a new face
Smiling and pretending to be happy about it
You meet another friend
He'll be there as well till the end
You'll come to love that man for who he really is
He's an opposite of yours
But it doesn't matter at all
Because you two will form the strongest of bonds
Eventually you'll get bullied in that school too
And you'll leave, but not for long
You'll go to another school, hate it there
And come back along
You're a teen now, congratulations
Now it's time for your adolescence
And really by my estimation
That entire thing, in essence
Is just another part of the journey
That'll take you and me together somewhere
And back in our school we return
And love it there
We meet yet more new people
You're afraid, you're scared
Some of them are evil
You come to learn how to defend yourself
And become skilled in fighting as well
They will hold your hand while punching it
To toughen you up, so don't fret
But I have some really bad news
Your only parent is really sick
She has been for over a decade
It's surprising she wasn't dead yet
But that's the issue, it's her time soon
You're not ready whatsoever
It'll scar you in your heart
Forever
And in your mind, it's your fault
Somehow it is
And some how it's your fault that your father died too
That's just how it is
And you admit it to yourself that that's dumb
But oh boy you have no clue
For what's about to come
See your grades? They'll become worse
Your focus will be even worse
Studying will get harder and harder
You'll need a private course
In almost every subject
And you'll hate yourself for it
But what can you really do
Failing's not an option
Or so they told you
Then you saw your brother fail a year
And life spiraled down hard
Your oldest sister takes you in
And your other two siblings? Are now with your aunt
She's strict, and rather mean
They are traumatized by the way she treats them
They rue the day to leave
And eventually, leave they do
But now your sister took over you
She decided it's best for you to stay
With her and her husband
And her young boy too
You feel a little free there
But then imprisoned
For a while you make yourself home
But it never becomes really whole
And eventually, you'll do your best
To be a model kid
Buy a laptop at some point
And just exist
Play your games, have your fun
Get told what to do by no one
They respect you now, you're growing up
Becoming closer to being an adult
And in this time, you'll fall deeply in love
With a girl who you were friends with
Your backbone, and the one you trusted whole
The one you opened up to, who helped you switch
Your perspective on life, and how it is
But then your senior year will come along
And that year is a terrible one
For everything hinges on the results
And the pressure tears you up
You make the best you can of the situation
But your life implodes
You end up wanting to end it
And move along to the past
But that never happens
Thanks to the circumstances
You still stand
Strong, and broken
With a heart of gold
And oh that friend you've loved?
Abandons you whole
You ignore it, and move to uni
A place you wish you never were
You met a few good people
You act social, but beware
This whole act will cost you dearly
As you'll be drained
Out of energy, and restrained
By your inability to move
You'll get iller and iller
With something to prove
Your dream shatters before you
Your hopes are now gone
And that woman that you loved?
You're on the run from
You know nothing of who you are anymore
You hate every second of life
And I'm sorry my dear boy to tell you this
But this is in case I don't survive
It's an apology from a man to himself
In hopes that I might take the leap
And strengthen my faith
See you on the other side, my dear child
I love you, even if you hate me
This ride we're on has been really wild
And I hope that you can one day change me
